When Jesus died physically, Paul (and all believers) died spiritually. Paul sees himself so united to the death of Christ that he can say, “I no longer live.” What does this mean? From birth, each of us was under the control and dominion of sin. The death of Christ was not a defeat, but a triumph (see Col. 2:13—15).
