This question is often asked as if Paul could simply condemn slavery and not expect there to be such serious repercussions that the continued existence of the church would be seriously threatened: “Let all who are under a yoke as slaves regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled” (1 Tim 6:1, emphasis added; cf. Titus 2:5).
