Of all the theological terms that have been used to describe God in the theological tomes of history, one sends chills up and down my spine so strongly that I can hardly write it on the chalkboard in the classroom without becoming overwhelmed. It is the word aseity. If there is any word in the English language that captures the otherness of God, it is the word aseity. It means “self-existence.” God, and God alone, has the power of being in and of Himself. - R. C. Sproul

- R. C. Sproul
